The term “Steampunk” may have been coined by science fiction author K. W. Jeter in the spring of 1987 but the actual origins of the genre have remained obscure and a matter of some debate in fandom … until now.

The crew of the Enterprise never could resist a bit of time travel and it’s not surprising that they’d eventually end up in Victorian England or that they’d be the root cause of Steampunk. 😉

We’re just all very lucky that Retronaut unearthed these images of Capt. Kirk and crew by Rabbit Tooth. Otherwise, the true origin of Steampunk would still be lost to history.

Star Wars is definitely one of the most successful Sci-Fi franchises in history despite george Lucas’ apparent attempt to sabotage his own creation – Episodes I, II, and III anyone? 😥

One of many indications of of Star Wars’ lasting success is the quantity and quality of fan art surrounding it, especially those that skillfully transpose Star Wars onto other genres.

Digital artist Clinton Felker provides us with a stunning series of Star Wars fan art depicting Boba Fett, Darth Vader, and a Stormtrooper as feudal Japanese warriors.

These are, to my mind, absolutely awesome images and I always thought that Darth Vader would have favored Sasaki Kojirō’s Ganryū school of swordsmanship, so I especially like that piece.

😆 Sometimes the oddities and extremes that fandom comes up with boggle my mind, but this is awesome.
