Reflections From a Murky Pond

GOP vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan gave his first 2012 campaign speech at the Iowa State Fair on Monday, August 13, 2012, addressing several thousand appreciative Americans…and several Liberals who turned violent.

It’s sad that the fair’s longstanding tradition of “the soapbox” was marred by Leftist violence but not shocking in the slightest.

Despite the Lamestream Media’s incessant lies about Americans being “extremists” and violent, it has always to date been the Liberals and Progressives who’ve chosen lawlessness to reach their ends.

According to reports from the scene, several protesters tried to force their way onto the stage from which Rep. Ryan was speaking. They struggled with police and had to be physically removed from the stage. Other reports indicated that one female Ryan supporter was punched in the face by a protester, and State Senator Joni Ernst, R-Red Oak, was pushed to the ground.

Other reports from local sources indicate that the Liberal thugs not only assaulted Iowa State Senator Joni Ernst, they also assaulted her her husband and 12-year-old daughter.

Rep. Ryan, exhibiting his trademark aplomb, good character, and high-mindedness, was not silenced by the attacks, nor did he allow these thugs to visibly anger him.

It’s funny because Iowans and Wisconsinites, we like to be respectful of one another and peaceful with one another and listen to each other. These ladies must not be from Iowa.

Much to Iowa’s shame, Rep. Ryan was wrong about these vermin. All of the violent protesters were reported to be from the Action Fund of the Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement, a Left-wing activist organization who regularly employs operatives to violently disrupt political events in the hopes of silencing their American enemies.

Paul Ryan seems to be a good man and a good Christian, preferring to listen to his better angels and to turn the other cheek when attacked by our shared enemies.  I, however, follow a different and less forgiving path as do many others in our country. What each of us choose to do to these vermin, if anything, is a matter of personal choice. Be aware though that Leftist violence will only escalate in the coming weeks and month if no strong action is taken to quell them and to apply a chilling effect on their willingness to act.

They certainly need to be taught that reciprocity is a two-way street.

America was founded by courageous, well-educated, and well-spoken extremists. At least the current crop of politicians and the Liberals and Progressives in general would consider them extremists by the standards they’ve decided upon in these latter and lesser times.

A Second Amendment Remedy?

Today, George Washington would be on all sorts of FBI, Homeland Security, and ATF watch lists, if they didn’t set him for a “Ruby Ridge.” Indeed, the Liberals and Progressives would decry America’s first President as a right-wing terrorist and un-American for espousing we, the People’s ability to defend ourselves from the government.

These days, John Adams would be denounced and would be called a theocrat and a “Christian Taliban” for his simple statement. He’d be classed as a Christian extremist and, like Washington, would be on all sorts of FBI, Homeland Security, and ATF watch lists, if they didn’t set him for a “Waco.”

Liberals And Progressive Hate Jefferson

All that needs to be said about how Thomas Jefferson would fare today is that he would never be able to leave the country for fear of being killed in a drone strike authorized by Obama.

No, those old school extremists who stood up for personal liberty, overthrew a tyrant’s rule, and created the United States of America would be hated and reviled, if not lethally worse, by the Left and the current regime today.

That is why their words are more important now then they have ever been since first uttered. When the nation’s government and a large segment of its residents would vilify its Founding Fathers, were they present today, those great men’s old school extremism is desperately needed once again.

Much like the cries of racism and complaints about ad hominem attacks, recently we’ve been hearing a lot of cries for civility in political discourse. There’s a certain subset of the residents within America’s borders who want a more polite and staid approach to deciding the course of America.

It seems that politics has gotten too raw and real for some people.

This, of course, begs three related questions: who are these people crying for increased civility, what is it that they actually want, and why do they want it so much?

Who’s Crying For Civility

I see two disparate and unrelated general segments of America’s population crying out for an increase in civility in political speech and argument. They are respectively the apolitical drones and the Leftists, the Liberals and Progressives. Each makes similar outcries but for seemingly different reasons and with different real goals.

What Do They Really Want And Why?

The apolitical people just want things to go quietly. They’re uninvolved in politics, fervently wish to stay that way, and are both bothered and scared by the passion that is being shown by many others. Whether from cynicism or self-centeredness, they do not want to pull their heads out the oh-so-comfortable sand and become involved and the fire of current political discourse is preventing them from doing this.

The staid, stuffy, and easily ignored ways are what these drones want to return to because they don’t want to open their eyes and choose a side.

The Leftists, these Liberals and Progressives, are quite different.  They are awake, aware, involved in the political process, and they have a definite direction that they want to take America in. Their cries for civility are really two things: cynical attempts to silent their enemies and cries for validation and acceptance.

The willfully uninvolved will just have to stop their ears better and learn to keep their heads down.

For many of the Left, their cries are just dog-whistles for censoring the American people. They don’t really want civility, as their very cries for it often show, so much as they want to stop any dissent against their foundations of their agenda.

For others on the left it is a matter of crying out for acceptance and validation. They’re looking for some affirmation that, even though their enemies disagree with their core ethos, they are still respected and approved of.

Sadly for those who’re crying out for increased civility, I don’t see much chance of- or value in its return any time in the near future. The divide in America is not too deep; it’s to fundamental. It doesn’t allow for the luxury of civility anymore. It’s not a political divide; it’s an ethical and moral divide.

We’re not going to be silenced. We’re not going to engage in carefully managed debates over minutiae of methodology when we want to change the goals and systems. And we’re very much not going to respect our enemies when we find the core beliefs that underpin their goals and actions to be utterly abominable and abhorrent.

Just about anyone and everyone in the Civilized World has heard of Left-Wing Extremists and Right-Wing Extremists and people in general have a picture in their minds’ eyes of who they are, what they want, and what sort of danger they pose.

It’s just part and parcel of our cultures.

What is seemingly never considered, much less mentioned aloud, is the possibility of Centrist or Moderate Extremists.  It’s axiomatic that the Center and those with more flexible or moderate socioeconomic and/or -political agendas and goals are not going to produce Extremists who might resort to dangerous methods to enact those agendas and reach those goals.

Is this anything more than an assumption predicated upon nothing but anecdotal evidence, and is it a wise assumption?

I would have always unequivocally said yes; political moderates are not a source for extremist behavior. Then I got a comment on a recent post:

There is a 3rd, although unlikely option.

That is for those of us who hate extremists to finally get fed up and kill both sides.

This would, of course be the best possible option. It’s about time that the majority, who do not belong to either of the crazies, finally have enough of this crap and put an end to it once and for all.

Unfortunately, we’re all busy trying to make a living off what the extremists are doing to our economies, and don’t really have the time or energy to do the right thing.

But eventually it’s time to weed the garden.

Unsurprisingly, my initial response was a mixture of humor and sarcasm. Then I sat back and thought about the situation and realized that there’s no reason why there wouldn’t be and/or couldn’t be a radical Centrist or Moderate movement that was more than willing to use Extremists’ methods to reach their ends.

There’s certainly no reason that I can think of for why such Moderate Extremists would be an impossibility. An individual’s place on the political spectrum – Left v. Right – doesn’t have any intrinsic bearing upon how committed they are to their ideology or to what extremes they would go to achieve dominance or hegemony.

With an increasingly frustrated and angry electorate extremism of action is always a possibility and, as Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear showed, that anger and frustration is shared by the Centrists who decry both the Left and the Right.

Perhaps we should finally fully scrap the the idea that the Center is “safe” and consider them as a potential source of extremism as well…

In these quickly darkening and degenerate days Americans are under siege from the Leftists – the Liberals and Progressive – who live within our nation but are no true part of it just as a cancer may be within the body but is not of the body.

The Left is quick to attack Americans. They do their worst to paint us as racists, bigots, selfish oafs, and anything other lie that they can dream up.

These viscous verbal assaults, along with the low-grade but consistent use of physical violence, are based upon fear, however, far more than they’re based upon the hate and/or loathing that the Left feels towards America and American.

One need look no further than to how these Liberals and Progressives, along with their minority tenants, responded to the town hall meetings during the run-up to ObamaCare or the Tea Party protests to see that this true. They are terrified of our anger because they have no recourse to it.

Americans need to either shrug off these slanders or embrace them as a motivation and a guide book to how to purge the body of America of the diseased tissue within it. To do otherwise is to become complicit in the crimes that these Leftists seek to commit against America, the Civilized World, and humanity as a whole.

The 19th century Dutch politician and theologian, Abraham Kuyper, said it better than I ever could.

When principles that run against your deepest convictions begin to win the day, then battle is your calling, and peace has become sin; you must, at the price of dearest peace, lay your convictions bare before friend and enemy, with all the fire of your faith.

That is how it must be if we are to save America from depredations of the Leftists and prevent President Obama’s followers from enacting his plan to “fundamentally change America.” Battle must be our calling; peace has become a sin because that peace is paid for by loss and corruption of our nation and the future of our children and our children’s children.

To those who would name me “extremist” I say, paraphrasing Barry Goldwater, “Extremism in the defense of America is no vice; moderation in pursuit of American liberties is no virtue!”

Remember though that not all wars are fought solely with the open clash of men and arms. War, even within the mortal realm, is fought on many planes and in many ways, not all of which involve physical violence and many of which employ it in only small, targeted amounts. It is war nonetheless and American must steel themselves to offer up sacrifices of blood and treasure upon the alters of America if we are to have any hope of victory.

If we can do that though, I believe we will achieve victory for our progeny because our enemies, as evidenced by the nature of their fears, do not have the faith and the will to do similarly.
