It is time to admit that public education operates like a planned economy. It’s a bureaucratic system where everybody’s role is spelled out in advance, and there are few incentives for innovation and productivity. It’s not a surprise when a school system doesn’t improve. It more resembles a Communist economy than our own market economy.
One admittedly problematical point in the GOP’s tax reform bill is that it increases the national debt by, at the most pessimistic estimate, $1.5 trillion – yes, with a “T” or $1,500,000,000,000 – over the next 10 years. It’s a point that Congressional Democrats and their Liberal and Progressive followers have ranting about since the bill’s inception.
Of course, given the Democrats’ love of deficit spending, this is the rankest hypocrisy. Hence, it is exactly what the American people have come to expect from our domestic enemies.
One further point of note, however – This is today. At any time in the future that the Republicans choose to rant about increasing the deficit for immediate economic gain – and they will, they’ll have gone from kettle to pot and be just as bad as the Democrats today.
America, like all nations, is and always has been under threat from foreign powers. Like the peoples of all nations this is something that Americans are used to and something that they can deal with…or could deal with. Things has changed and the new threats to America are both existential and difficult to deal with.
The new threats aren’t military; they’re economic. They’re also not the run of the mill threat to international trade. No, the new threats to America are foreign governments choosing to punitively divest themselves of US sovereign debt and eliminating the use of the US Dollar as their nations’ reserve currency.
MOSCOW, March 4 (RIA Novosti) – An adviser to Russian President Vladimir Putin said Tuesday that authorities would issue general advice to dump US government bonds in the event of Russian companies and individuals being targeted by sanctions over events in Ukraine.
Sergei Glazyev said the United States would be the first to suffer in the event of any sanctions regime.
“The Americans are threatening Russia with sanctions and pulling the EU into a trade and economic war with Russia,†Glazyev said. “Most of the sanctions against Russia will bring harm to the United States itself, because as far as trade relations with the United States go, we don’t depend on them in any way.â€
Glazyev noted that Russia is a creditor to the United States.
“We hold a decent amount of treasury bonds – more than $200 billion – and if the United States dares to freeze accounts of Russian businesses and citizens, we can no longer view America as a reliable partner,†he said. “We will encourage everybody to dump US Treasury bonds, get rid of dollars as an unreliable currency and leave the US market.â€
Do not mistake me; in no way would I normally think this was a credible threat at this time. These are not, however, normal times and the Russian cultural psyche has proved itself willing to use “scorched earth” tactics. They’re also fairly strongly allied with China, who could both tolerate the damage to themselves from divesting themselves of US sovereign debt and eliminating the use of the US Dollar as their nations’ reserve currency. In point of fact, China would likely benefit from doing so in short-term. Hence, while the threat is not imminent, it is credible.
This, in all likelihood, isn’t going to happen. What is going to happen is that the Obama Regime will not push for sanctions against Russia for just about anything. And this, in turn, means less than it might since Europe’s flagging and vulnerable economy is dependent upon trade with Russia.
The important point is the threat is credible, extremely serious, and has been made. This not only shows the soft and flaccid underbelly of the America of the 21st century, it’s removes one of America’s greatest weapons, our trade.
Truth is stranger and more disgusting than fiction could ever be, at least professionally published fiction where publishers and editors exhibit some control over the quality of content. The fictional character Steve Austin was the Six Million Dollar Man is far less strange and disgusting than factual characterature Obama, The $16 Trillion Child.
Obama – The $16 Trillion Child
Never in the history of America have so many owed so much because of so few. Worse! That $16 Trillion dollars of national debt is only what Obama and his cabal of spending addicts were allowed to get away with; they wanted, and still want, trillions and trillions dollars more of Americans’ hard-earned wealth.
For The Record
Prior to the misborn, narcissistic, child-in-long-pants that America has been saddle with, his predecessor President Bush Jr. held the record for increasing America’s national debt; a responsible spender the pampered “Dubya” was not and it showed. He successfully used his bully pulpit to add approximately $4.9 trillion to our nations debt over the eight years, two major economic collapses, and two wars of his Presidency.
Obama, however, used a combination of his bully pulpit and a hands-off, lead from behind “leadership” style to outpace President Bush Jr.’s total spending before his first term was ended, with far less excuse and to far, far, far less results.
Oh yes! Truth is stranger and far more horrifying and disgusting than fiction would ever be allowed to be. The $16 Trillion Child is proof of that.
Despite being handed a book deal on the topic, the First Lady is, in this singular instance, honest enough to acknowledge that she doesn’t possess a green thumb and her rather high profile garden in the White House’s South Lawn hasn’t been a spectacular success.
Sadly for America, her husband is no better and definitely doesn’t have a green thumb either.
Obama’s Growing Problem
That’s not to say he has a black thumb, meaning that he kills all he tries to grow. He’s been quite effective at growing one thing, the National Debt. I’d guess you’d say that the boy’s got a “red thumb.” All that he can grow is debt and outlay. 😉
It’s a bit of a gloomy forecast for Obama and his handlers and overseers. The climate just isn’t cooperating with the boy and he had to move his acceptance speech from Bank of America Stadium, which seats 73,298 to to the Time Warner Cable Arena, which seats only 22,000.
Of course, there’s currently a lot of speculation that the “climate” in question was the political climate as opposed to Charlotte, NC’s weather.
Raining On The Charade
My guess is that it’s a combination of both factors. Obama’s incessant excuses are a piss-poor umbrella against the storm of disillusionment and bitterness that the boy’s facing from the Left, and neither his shucking and jiving nor his tap-dancing will save him from a soaking this time. This means that it’s far more likely that the threat of inclement weather would keep too many attendees away for it to be a “proper” political event.
There’s a certain sense to that. Obama has consistently and utterly failed to both lead and to inspire since being installed as POTUS. The Campaigner-in-Chief, once forced out of his comfort zone and faced with being accountable for a deliverable for possibly the first time in his life, fell flat on his face.
Don’t Look, Just Go Forward. Ignore The Man With The Air Hammer
And the boy’s only response was the same as the primary plank of his 2008 platform, blame President Bush and, when that is too far-fetched for even his constituents, blame the GOP, the productive Americans, or anyone else he or his handlers can find.
Presidential Taglines – And Obama’s As Well
Sadly for Obama and his cronies, blamecasting only works for so long before people – even Liberals, Progressives, and their minority tenants – grow weary of it and want results. Being a whining, little crybaby is just a litany of failure and that doesn’t inspire followers. Results do that.
The whole thing is, however, a fitting reprise of the boy’s 2008 acceptance speech as the only warming trend and the only sea level he’s lowered is that of his own acceptance and support by his base. 😉
