Something Better Than Eggs For Easter

More and for some metrics better things come in bright, Spring colors than painted eggs, after all and beautiful women with their hair colored in such decorative manners are certainly one of them.

Oh! And, Ä’ostre being a holy day that celebrates the return of life to the world and fertility, just like the Easter Bunny, the beauties above are most definitely evocative of a more natural egg hunt. 😉

Easter Bunnies!

The Easter Bunnies have come, not just to town, but to Reflections From A Murky Pond as well.

Easter Bunnies!

ROFLMAO And what should one do when encountering an Easter Bunny? Why, hunt for the eggs of course. Easter is, after all, a time to celebrate burgeoning fertility.

Oh, and for any Christians who might be offended by this article, feeling it to be both too irreverent and sacrilegious, I must respond that every single one of the trappings of Easter celebrations, even the holiday’s name, was stolen from European paganism, in this case the Vernal Equinox celebration of Ostara or Eostre.

Christians should, in my rarely humble opinion, eschew the Easter Bunny in favor of the Paschal Lamb.

Now, time to find an Easter Bunny and paint some eggs. 😉

Blessed Ä’ostre

Ostara
May You Have Blessed Ä’ostre

Whether we each call it Ä’ostre, Ostara, Eostur, or Easter, we celebrate rebirth and a new dawn this holiday. May blessings fall upon you as do the soft rays of the Spring sun.

Blessed Yuletide

Today is my religious winter Holy Day, Yule. Wednesday the 25th will be my American winter holiday, Christmas.

Yule Queens
Michael Whelan’s “Winter Queen” and “Summer Queen”

So I wish one and all a blessed Yule and will enjoy the day with my family while the Goddesses decide the year’s fate.

Morrighu’s Foretelling

raven-pentacle-bronzeAt the end of Cath Maighe Tuireadh, also called the Cath Dédenach Maige Tuireadh, Morrighu made this dire prophecy known to all those who had defeated the Formor, lest they grow arrogant and complacent in their victory and in the belief that their victory would bring evil to its knees for all time.

Such is Her way – to always remind all that victory, joy, and peace are fleeting things.

Her words that She sang to the Tuatha Dé Danann, such as they have reached us in these latter days:

I shall not see a world that will be dear to me.
Summer without flowers,
Kine will be without milk,
Women without modesty,
Men without valor,
Captures without a king.

[gap: extent: approx. 6 words]

Woods without mast,
Sea without produce,

[gap: extent: approx. 40 words]

Wrong judgments of old men,
False precedents of brehons,
Every man a betrayer,
Every boy a reaver.
Son will enter his father’s bed,
Father will enter his son’s bed,
Everyone will be his brother’s brother-in-law.

[gap: extent: 8 words]

An evil time!
Son will deceive his father,
Daughter will deceive her mother.

Many scholars think of this as being an eschatological prophecy but I’m not convinced of such. She makes no specific mention of the ending of the world or, even, alludes to it, just the ending of all that worth anything in the world and in the races of Man.

Does it not seem that Morrighu’s foretelling was accurate and that we are in, or fast approaching, the times that She prophesied? This world that I see around is more and more becoming less dear to me and much else that She sang of has come to pass or is coming to pass even now.
