If You See Something…

President Barack Obama looking angry and spitefulPresident Obama and his Liberals are very concerned about the mixed messages the American people are receiving about their plans to change the way healthcare is provided in America. They seem to have been hit hard by the recent videos on Naked Emperor News of Obama seemingly admitting to the AAHCA’s Public Option being a deliberate prelude to a Single Payer healthcare system.

Apparently the White House would very much like to streamline the messages that are presented to the public.

There is a lot of disinformation about health insurance reform out there, spanning from control of personal finances to end of life care.  These rumors often travel just below the surface via chain emails or through casual conversation.  Since we can’t keep track of all of them here at the White House, we’re asking for your help. If you get an email or see something on the web about health insurance reform that seems fishy, send it to flag@whitehouse.gov.

Isn’t that a rather chilling call to action from the White House? Calling for people to report emails or websites that disagree with President Obama’s position on healthcare goes directly against the grain of American values. In fact it raises the specter of nations and ideologies that America has actively warred against.

I’d like to believe that this is nothing more than President Obama and his staff trying to get some help with identifying various talking points to address and attempt to refute, but such a call to action coming from an already embattled regime strikes a disturbing chord in me.

I wonder how long it will be before some Liberal reports this blog to President Obama’s administration, an administration which includes the FCC and the DoJ?

Nazi Germany trained the Hitler Youth to report dissenters, even their parents, to the Gestapo. Soviet Russia had similar calls for the populace to self-monitor and report dissent to the KGB. Different but tangentially related, in America we have the counter-terrorism slogan of, “If you see something, say something.”

Having anything reminiscent of any of these things being applied to websites and personal communications or emails is something that should worry each and every American. Or are the Liberals now suddenly OK with the Patriot Act and similar things since they are in power for now?

Again an interesting take on the situation. I have been listening to a great deal of liberal press about what conservatives are pushing regarding this healthcare bill. One of the most entertaining pieces was done about various conservatives trying to convince their constituents that this healthcare plan was a means to ‘kill off the elderly’. Yeah, thats right, kill off the elderly. I can’t remember who did the piece, possibly The Daily Show, but it was interesting to say the least.

This healthcare plan has a great deal of misinformation, and a lot of garbage being thrown at it by the conservatives. Much of the garbage is completely baseless and wholy fabricated, such as the claims that Canada’s healthcare is terrible and the people hate it … in fact, the vast majority love their healthcare. Same throughout Europe. Conservatives, however, need to push this disinformation in order to convince their constituents that this is bad.

Now, I am not saying that Liberals aren’t doing the same. They are sugar coating this as much as possible to keep their voters happy as well. But, seeing as how I am for Healthcare, it is easier for me to forgive the Sugar Coating than the deceit.

There’s a lot of disinformation – not just sugar coating – on both sides of the argument. The Right, for the sake of mobilizing resistance, uses absolutist rhetoric and assigns motive where none is proven. The Left does much the same.

I’m just really, really viscerally bothered by an official call from the White House for Obama’s followers to report such dissent to the government. I’d be equally bothered, and for the same reasons, if it was a Conservative White House trying to quash such a bill calling for such self-monitoring and reporting.

Really, which things are “disinformation” and/or “fishy?” And, once the White House – read as Rahm Emanuel and his staff – have that list of email senders and websites, what will they do with the information?

The answer is probably and in all likelihood absolutely nothing beyond data mining to create counter-arguments. But what if I’m wrong?

And remember that this call is coming from the staff of the man who has repeatedly use courtroom politics to get his way and whose followers have their own means of attacking dissenters.

I hope someone asks about this at a White House press conference. Seeing Gibbs squirm would do my heart good.

    Josh,

Squirming, ducking, weaving, and the like are all that Gibbs seems to do during the questions at a press conference. Sometimes it looks like he’s taken up belly-dancing. 😉

The funny thing is this was asked about today, he came back with a comment about fox news.
