NYC Of Yore

Things were both very different and very much the same in NYC a century ago, so there’s something to the adage, “The more things change, the more they stay the same.”

Interestingly – to me, at least – that adage, an epigram by Jean-Baptiste Alphonse Karr, was only 50 years old when the earlier clips in this video were shot.

Thank God I don’t live anywhere near N.Y. with all it’s crime and filth! I pity anyone trapped in such conditions.

Truth be told, the crime’s not bad in most areas. The filth I’ll give you, as it were.

I wouldn’t live anywhere else and I’ve lived what seems to be everywhere else except Antarctica (I turned down the job).

  3. Buffet Says:

Whoops. Forgive me for disparaging your home town. I just couldn’t live somewhere where everyone is so rude!

  4. jonolan Says:

S’OK, Buffet. NYC is a special sort of place that one has to get used to. Frankly, I felt the same way as you about the city until the 1st time I lived here part-time.
