Still the Best Hope

Posted in Books & Reading, Politics, Society on April 15th, 2012

Still the Best Hope: Why the World Needs American Values to Triumph by radio talk show host, syndicated columnist, author, and public speaker, Dennis Prager may well be one of the seminal literary works of 21st century America.

In this book, Dennis Prager contends that humanity as a whole must decide between American values and its two major oppositional alternatives: Islamism and European-style democratic socialism.

First, Prager dissects why Leftism has been and will always be a moral failure, despite its acknowledged appeal to many people of goodwill.

Second, he similarly explains why fundamentalist Islam, despite its historic and growing appeal, cannot make a good society. He does, however, put forth the overly optimistic idea that an open and tolerant Islam will emerge and arise from faithful American Muslims.

Thirdly and most importantly, Prager, in Still The Best Hope, sets forth the “American Trinity”: liberty, values rooted in the Creator, and the melting-pot ideal – in other words, “Liberty,” “In God We Trust,” and “E Pluribus Unum” – and explains why the “American Trinity” is the rock upon which American Exceptionalism has been built.

Still the Best Hope: Why the World Needs American Values to Triumph hits the shelves and eReaders on April 24, 2012. I’d advise adding it your near-term reading list, which is what I’ll be doing.

No Worse Tyranny

One the great Truths was revealed to masses of Mankind by Robert Heinlein in The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress, originally published in 1966.

No Worse Tyranny
Heinlein Nailed It

As was often the case with Mr. Heinlein, he was exactly correct. Tyranny of the worst sort will not be enacted by the angry despot; it will be forced upon the people by a more kindly despot, the Nanny State.

This, more than any other of their evils, is why the Liberals and Progressives are the enemies of freedom and liberty. They are Statists, promulgating neo-Socialist policies, for “our own good” as they see it.

Shhhhhhhh…

Hmmm…I thought librarians favored silence…I guess, about some things, I was apparently very, very wrong. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I got to admit though, the use of a Venn diagram was absolutely brilliant.

Works Of Fantasy

Western society has over the years produced and appreciated some great works of fiction, some of the best being flights of pure fantasy.

Works of Fiction
Great Works Of Fantasy

Some authors, such as: Lewis Carroll, Frank Baum, J. M. Barrie, and J.R.R. Tolkien produced works of fantasy that have survived the test of time and which have become classics.

Others are neither so skilled or fortunate. President Obama’s 2012 Budget Proposal is a perfect example of such a failure.ย  It has surpassed fantasy and entered into the realm of farce. ๐Ÿ˜‰

My Elder Valentine

Cthulhu MedalionThe Elder God Cthulhu, created by HP Lovecraft in 1928 and expanded upon by his friend, August Derleth over the next three decades is entrenched in our literature, popular culture, and very psyches.

The tentacular devourer of souls is even a credible political candidate for those who are tired of voting for the lesser of evils.

Now artist Marcelo Gallego shows us that the Great Old One, Cthulhu is for Valentine’s Day as well.

Nothing says true love and desire more than one of these cards. They promise a lasting bond that even death cannot cleave asunder.

Add a getaway to Dunwich, MA and you and your love will have a Valentine’s Day you’ll always remember.
