Adulting Childhood

Bill Watterson’s Calvin and Hobbes has always been a source of rare and somewhat underrecognized wisdom. This quick cartoon is a perfect example of the subtle lessons Mr. Watterson taught. I would call it a lesson in Adulting Childhood or Childing Adulthood.

Perhaps we as a culture were and are too fond of and yet, at the same time, to ignorant of the meaning in 1 Corinthians 13:11. Perhaps we, to our harm, put away the childlike alongside the childish. We seem to listen to our minds while ignoring our hearts’ and souls’ exhortations to find and appreciate the wonders big and small that abound in Creation.

The Science-Religion Cycle

While we’ve no evidence that this has happened to Man before – the Tower of Babel (Genesis 11:1–9) is lore, not evidence – the Science-Religion Cycle both makes sense and is something of a favorite with both futurists and science-fiction writers. Frankly, I find it quite plausible.

And Wrap It Up With Epiphany

January 6th, As It Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda Been

Ah, the once – and all patriots hope – future January 6th “insurrection.” So much Dráng but so little Stúrm. It was a hope, but it was a wasted one that achieved nothing, mostly because there was no real planning, no real leadership, and no real intent to do anything properly meaningful.

No, despite the Democrats’ witch-hunt and hearings, which didn’t rise out of the swamp enough to even qualify as kangaroo court, this was no insurrection. It wasn’t even as well-organized, well-funded, or well-armed as the Dems’ and their media’s precious #BlackLivesMatter riots. It was just a small group of justifiably angry patriots foolishly venting their anger – at least upon the right people – without much thought at all.

So, our first January 6th came to naught. But, it’s a new year and who knows what will happen.

Happy Twelfth Night

Happy Twelfth Night

An interesting historical fact is that tonight, Twelfth Night, was the crescendo of Christmastide. Christmas itself was – until the rise of Protestantism and, later, Cromwell and his Roundheads – the beginning of the season and Twelfth Night the culmination of it and the biggest party night. 😉
