Food Porn’s Goatse

Food porn, it’s been a thing for a long time on the internet, though not as long as cats. 😆 But, like a form of such things, Rule 34 applies and it has its very, very disturbing dark side. Yes, food porn has its own goatse.

And yes, I’ll be honest. My wives and I do – more than occasionally – engage in purveying food porn. Three top shelf chefs with smartphones and social media accounts will do that. 😉

But, and this a big but worth a lot of cringing shivers, especially among the younger crowd, those 30 images above aren’t made up or originally designed for shock factor. Each one is actually a “real” food or food suggestion from America’s 50s, 60s, and 70s. Indeed, most of them were suggested for dinner parties or similar culinary events.

Sure, we’ve been told to blame George Renninger, a candymaker at the Wunderlee Candy Company in Philadelphia, for creating the monstrosity that is candy corn in the 1880s, and the Goelitz Confectionery Company who spread the evil to the world in 1898, but now we know the ugly truth.
