Fiesta Time

Posted in Politics on June 4th, 2009

As I’ve commented before, to me it’s obvious that President Obama and the Press Corps, with the more than willing collusion of the MSM, have presented Judge Sotomayor as a nominee for the SCOTUS on the basis of her race and gender not her qualifications. It’s a very obvious ploy to use the Supreme Court nomination as a weapon in the 2010 House and Senate elections.

But a picture is worth a thousand words and the June 2nd editorial cartoon in the Oklahoman depicts the problem far better than my rhetoric:

Fiesta Time. I Dare You.
Now, who wants to be first?

Chip Bok’s cartoon sums up the situation, in all it vileness, very well – better than my mere words could. This is exactly what President Obama has done. He’s metaphorically strung up Judge Sotomayor as pinata and dared the GOP to “beat on her,” knowing the the Liberal Media will paint any argument against Sotomayor’s confirmation as racist and sexist.

Of course the cartoon has offended many people, and many Leftist media outlets and talking heads are already doing their best to fuel the flames of that outrage, and aim it at the Republicans instead of aimed where it belongs, which is at President Obama and his Liberals.

It should be offensive to Hispanics that President Obama, the White House Press Corps, and their MSM preferred to use Identity Politics to push Judge Sotomayor instead of her extensive valid qualifications. It should be offensive to all Americans that President Obama is using a Supreme Court nomination as a political tool in the upcoming 2010 House and Senate elections.

So yes, the cartoon is offensive to Latinos and women. Someone tell me though how anyone can be expected to depict a disgustingly offensive situation without giving offense with its depiction?

The New GM

General Motors filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection Monday, June 1, 2009, as part of President Obama’s plan to shrink the automaker to a sustainable size and give a majority ownership stake to the federal government.

Obama’s plan is for the federal government to take a 60% ownership stake in the new GM (Government Motors?). The Canadian government would take 12.5% of the company. The United Auto Workers Union (UAW) would be granted a 17.5% share and unsecured bondholders receiving a mere 10% holding. All existing GM shareholders are expected to be wiped out and to lose all of their investments.

So Americans, under the rule of President Obama are now left with an important question:

Would you buy a new or used car from this man?
Would You Buy A Car From This Man?

Of course I could say that the question was largely moot. Obama is set to take ownership of both GM and Chrysler through his control of their bankruptcy proceedings and his control over the US financial sector; American will be left with few choices except to purchase cars from Obama and his government agencies.

On the bright side though, GM and Chrysler – possibly to be combined into a single Government Motors, People’s Motors, or Obama Motors – will have the benefit of both the largest advertising budget in history and the consummate snake oils salesman / used car salesman in America’s history as their spokesman. 😉

So Tiller Is Dead

Dr. George "The Baby Killer" Tiller - AbortionistOn Sunday, May 31, 2009 Dr. George “The Baby Killer” Tiller, one of the very few doctors eager to perform very late term abortions in America, was shot down and killed as he stood in the lobby of Reformation Lutheran Church where he was serving as an usher. With one well-placed bullet the gunman ended the extremely controversial career of the abortionist and ended his life as well.

The Pro-Abortion crowd has described this as a heinous attack and as a cowardly one as well. They’ve also capitalized upon it, with the tacit approval of President Obama, to describe the Pro-Life or Anti-Abortion movements in the United States as domestic terrorists.

From the Wichita Eagle:

Today, a 51-year-old Johnson County man could be charged with murder and aggravated assault in the shooting of Tiller, who had been shot before by an anti-abortion foe.

The crime has drawn condemnation and outrage from the president and stirred strong emotions across the nation.

Tiller, 67, was shot once just after 10 a.m. Sunday as he stood in the lobby of Reformation Lutheran Church, 7601 E. 13th St., where he was serving as an usher. The gunman threatened to shoot two men who tried to apprehend him.

Wichita police said that the suspect was arrested without incident on I-35 in Johnson County about three hours after the shooting, following a statewide broadcast describing the suspect and his car.

Although Wichita police would not name the suspect, the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office identified him as Scott P. Roeder, according to the Associated Press.

Wichita police said it appeared that the suspect had acted alone but that they are investigating whether he had any connection to anti-abortion groups.

Police on Sunday said they expected the man to be charged with murder and two counts of aggravated assault.

Whoever shot and killed Tiller – most likely Roeder, but that hasn’t actually been proven yet – most certainly broke the law and commit the crime of murder. For that he should certainly be tried in a court of law, and I doubt that he could muster any defense under the law for his actions.

Be that as it may, I cannot find it in my heart to either condemn Roeder for his actions nor feel least the least bit of sympathy or sorrow for Dr. Tiller or his family. Tiller made his money and gained his notoriety for performing very late term abortions, not first trimester abortions, and his family for decades profited from his actions. These are not people who can hide behind the belief that “they’re just clumps of cells.”
