There has been grumblings from within the Beltway for some time but the last couple of weeks leading up to the 2010 Congressional Mid-term Elections saw a sharp increase in behind the scenes rancor between Congressional Democrats and President Obama’s White House, and some dissension within the Congressional Democrats themselves.

Is the the Blues’ house divided in the wake of their trouncing by the GOP on November 2, 2010? There are some indication that this so and some hints that the surviving Dems are separating into two camps – the Clinton Democrats and the Obama Democrats.

Internecine War Afoot Soon? Clinton Dems v. Obama Dems?

Word on the street (K Street) and scuttlebutt at the Capital Grille is that there might be a Primary Challenge against Obama. Some of those rumors point to a sudden increase in communications between Secretary of State Clinton and outgoing House Speaker Pelosi as the basis for substantiating this idea.

No, none of this has any online sources. It is a mixture of rumor, hearsay, extrapolation upon past and present behaviors by the principals involved, and some basic sociodynamics.

Take it for what it’s worth and no more, but also no less. I did break / predict Sen. McCain’s “choosing” Governor Sara Palin as his VP candidate and running mate a full week before the official announcement after all.

It might get even worse for President Obama than being challenged in the Democratic Primary. Obama is wounded and weak, politically speaking, and there are always scandals and such that could be used to bring him down. If the Dems are split as rumor claims, the Clinton Dems – possibly including Pelosi – might aid the GOP’s expected attacks against Obama and not even block Impeachment proceedings.

Think about it for a moment. Pelosi weakens Obama enough so that Clinton can beat him in a Primary Challenge, then Clinton nominates Pelosi as her VP candidate.

One thing to watch for is whether or not Pelosi resigns from the House entirely and, if so, how she goes about it. Another is what Hillary Clinton is doing and how she presents herself to foreign governments, as principal actor or as Obama’s puppet.

Is the the Blues’ house divided? I think we’ll pretty much know the answer to that by Christmas.

Hillary Clinton stood up in front of the crowd of Democrats and delivered a speech. It has generally been hailed as a very good speech.

It was a concession speech!

Clinton never used the word “concede,” but that is what the speech was all about – Hillary giving up the race and supporting Obama as the Democratic Nominee.

Now the Democrats will have to wait and see if Clinton can manage to sway her supporters. So far the response has been mixed, with some some Clinton supporters seeming willing to support Obama and others somehow seeing this as another example of mysogyny in America.

Any thoughts?

By now most of the Civilized World has heard of Jerome Corsi’s new book, The Obama Nation: Leftist Politics and the Cult of Personality. I’m fairly sure that most of the Civilized World also has an opinion about the work – a strongly held opinion for or against both the author and the book.

For the detractors of Corsi and The Obama Nation the anger and outrage has unsurprisingly spilled over onto the supposed “right wing attack machine.” This is of course a normal reaction for the Left in general and the Obama followers in specific. Anything that is derogatory about Obama must have been dreamed up by McCain and the GOP. Once again their knee-jerk emotional reaction was wrong.

Corsi’s The Obama Nation: Leftist Politics and the Cult of Personality came straight out of the PUMA laden Clinton Campaign bag of dirty tricks. The book was produced by Mary Matalin, wife of long time friend of both Bill and Hillary Clinton and Campaign Consultant to both Clinton’s presidential campaigns.

I suppose that it shouldn’t surprise anyone that Hillary Clinton was involved with such an attack on her arch-enemy Barack Obama. I thought that as a GOP vehicle the book was released too early in the campaign to be properly effective. The release date is not too early though for Clinton since she’s forced her name back onto the DNC nomination and roll-call vote at that DNC Convention. It’s actually perfectly timed.

With a very unexpected H/T to Kayinmaine at White Noise Insanity.

Sen. Barack Obama has claimed victory in the race to be the Democratic Presidential Nominee, but has he truly crossed the finish line or is he merely claiming victory in the hope that doing so will cause it to be? The truth of how the Democrats’ nomination process works and the math involved side against Obama having secured being the the Presumptive Nominee.

As of Wednesday, June 4, 2008, Sen. Barack Obama has won 1,763 Pledged Delegates of the 2,118 total delegates he needs to secure the nomination. An additional 395 Superdelegates have indicated their endorsement of the Senator. This would seem to bring Obama’s total to 2,158 delegates – comfortably above the required 2,118 needed to be the Presumptive Nominee. So far, so good for Obama and his supporters.

Sadly for Obama and his supporters the Superdelegates don’t really count at this point. Their endorsement of Obama cannot end the race because their endorsement will not coalesce into votes until the Convention. With Hillary’s refusal to concede and suspend her campaign, this race will be going to the Convention.

Is Obama’s victory cry the truth or just the audacity of hope?

Remember how Bill Clinton described Texas as a Do or Die race for his wife’s campaign. He specifically pointed out to the crowd that winning in both Texas and Ohio were prerequisites for Hillary gaining the Democratic nomination.

If she wins Texas and Ohio I think she will be the nominee. If you don’t deliver for her, I don’t think she can be. It’s all on you.

– Former US president Bill Clinton
February 20th, 2008, Beaumont, TX

Well, after a long delay, the final results from Texas are at last counted and recorded. Obama won Texas. Hillary lost! Though Clinton won more delegates than Obama in the Texas Primaries – 65 to 61, Obama won more delegates in the Texas Caucuses – 38 to 29.

Final Texas Totals:

Barack Obama won 99 Texas delegates

Hillary Clinton won 94 Texas delegates

One has to wonder what Hillary will do now – besides taking Bill to task for making such an ill-advised statement in Beaumont, TX. A lot of publicity surrounded Bill’s Do or Die claim, and it looked at first like Hillary had pulled it off – albeit by the slimmest of margins. Now that it has been shown that she did in fact lose Texas, one can be assured that there will be an even greater media storm over her husband’s comment.

Geraldine Ferraro, former Congresswoman, former Vice Presidential candidate, and former US ambassador to the UN Committee on Human Rights is a well known feminist. She's also a somewhat less well known racist.

Geraldine Ferraro, former Congresswoman, former Vice Presidential candidate, and former US ambassador to the UN Committee on Human Rights is a well known feminist. She’s also a somewhat less well known racist.

Given the media coverage of Ferraro’s recent racist gaffe, I assume most of the Free World is familiar with her comment:

If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position, and if he was a woman (of any color) he would not be in this position. He happens to be very lucky to be who he is.

— Geraldine Ferraro
March, 2008

Taken strictly as a standalone comment, this might be taken as simply a poorly worded statement from a feminist who has difficulties in looking beyond gender issues, or the rantings of a Hillary Clinton supporter who isn’t dealing well with the sudden lack of Clinton’s “inevitability.” Sadly, this would be a mistake; Geraldine Ferraro’s racism has roots that are decades old.

Because of his “radical” views, if Jesse Jackson were not black, he wouldn’t be in the race.

 — Geraldine Ferraro
April, 1988

Doesn’t the second statement by Ferraro sound eerily familiar? It seems that for at least 20 years Geraldine Ferraro has held and staunchly espoused the theory that Black politicians and political candidates are only viable because they are Black, not because of any skills they might have or their stance on the issues of the day.

When called on the carpet by the general American public, an unapologetic Geraldine Ferraro said that her comments about the electoral impact of Barack Obama’s race have been taken out of context, and that she stands by her words.

“It wasn’t a racist comment, it was a statement of fact,” she said on CBS’ Early Show, adding that she would leave Hillary Clinton’s national finance committee if she were asked, but would not stop raising money for the New York senator’s presidential bid. Ferraro also blamed Obama’s chief strategist, David Axelrod, for misinterpreting her remarks.

So apparently Geraldine Ferraro isn’t a racist because what she said was a “fact.” Below is another quote that then also must not be racist, since it was considered factual and laws reflecting that “fact” were passed in 30 States.

No brutality, no infamy, no degradation in all the years of southern slavery, possessed such villainious character and such atrocious qualities as the provision of the laws of Illinois, Massachusetts, and other states which allow the marriage of the negro, Jack Johnson, to a woman of Caucasian strain. [applause]. Gentleman, I offer this resolution … that the States of the Union may have an opportunity to ratifty it. … Intermarriage between whites and blacks is repulsive and averse to every sentiment of pure American spirit. It is abhorrent and repugnant to the very principles of Saxon government. It is subversive of social peace. It is destructive of moral supremacy, and ultimately this slavery of white women to black beasts will bring this nation a conflict as fatal as ever reddened the soil of Virginia or crimsoned the mountain paths of Pennsylvania. … Let us uproot and exterminate now this debasing, ultra-demoralizing, un-American and inhuman leprosy .

– Seaborn Roddenbery (D-Georgia)
Congressional Record, 62d. Congr., 3d. Sess., December 11, 1912, pp. 502-503

Obama himself has called the comments “patently absurd,” and his chief strategist, David Axelrod, has called for Clinton to cut ties with the former New York congresswoman, who serves on her campaign’s finance committee. Clinton has said that she does not agree with Ferraro’s remarks.

Clinton campaign spokesman Mo Eleithee told CNN’s Sasha Johnson Tuesday evening that “Ms. Ferraro is speaking for herself. We have made clear that we do not agree with her remarks.”

The Clinton Campaign, her real campaign for the 2,025 delegates needed to win as opposed to the scrambling for populist support that we all see on the MSM, is well underway. Sen. Clinton, in another stellar example of her understanding of Realpolitik, has furthered her true campaign for those delegates needs for the Democratic nomination despite Obama’s growing lead in the party’s populist vote during the Democratic Primary race.

According to a LA Times/Bloomberg national poll, Clinton has so far convinced or coerced approximately 50% of the superdelegates to vote for who “they personally support” as opposed to the candidate who won their state’s pledged delegates. Clinton has also managed to gain the support of 52% of the superdelegates for her call to allow delegates from Florida and Michigan to participate in the Democratic National Convention.

Ladies and Gentlemen, the race for the Democratic Nomination is far from over, though the race for the People’s support may well be. It appears that Clinton is willing to concede the popular vote to Obama while she concentrates her efforts and money on directly acquiring the delegates she needs.

Tuesday, February 5, 2008 is Super Tuesday – the day when 24 states with over half the delegates to the national conventions hold their primaries. While the Republican race is interesting this time around, it’s the Democrats who are generating the most interest.

Here’s my hope – unfounded and immaterial as it is – for Super Tuesday:

10:00PM EST, January 8th, 2008 – with over 50% of the precincts having reported, the results are currently:

Democratic party with 59% reporting:

Clinton 60,839 39%

Obama 57,013 37%

Edwards 25,845 17%

Richardson 7,409 5%

Kucinich 2,240 1%

Dodd 388 0%

Biden 343 0%

Gravel 209 0%

Republican party with 57% reporting:

McCain 46,600 37%

Romney 39,501 31%

Huckabee 14,242 11%

Giuliani 10,926 9%

Paul 9,917 8%

Thompson 1,487 1%

Hunter 645 1%

Frankly the result are still very much up in the air. The Obama v. Clinton battle is much closer than was to be expected, especially since none of the pundits expected an early lead by Hillary. The Romney v. McClain battle is shaping up to be far closer than the MSM would like us to believe.
