The Liberal Brain

In the last year I’ve seen reports from numerous studies that purport to indicate that the differences between Americans and Liberals is biological. In some cases they even claim that it’s genetic.

Frankly, I tend to believe them – at least a little bit. It’s been obvious to me for years that Liberal brain and the American brain are formed quite differently. 😉

A Cross Section Of The Liberal Brain

Whether the cerebral development differences are genetic, congenital, or pathological in origin doesn’t, in the short-term, really matter. The Liberal brain does not operate in the same manner as the American brain.

All behavorial traits thus far have been found to have a genetic component. I believe I read that republicans are more introverted, a highly genetic trait.

I guess I have some of that liberal brain, being to the left. High taxes works if you don’t have multiculturalism. A bit of Nanny State thinking too, I think vice taxes and similar meassures is the only way to fight obesity and the costs that come with it. Thankfully I also have the broccoli-stem so overweight is not a problem for me.

    Other than that I’m ok ; )

Having a high exportable goods to population ratios helps too I would think. 😉 Ah Sweden…

Yep, lot of clever geeks here.

Very amusing brain graphic! To Paradigm’s comment: If our “personal responsiblity” node were large enough, then we wouldn’t have to rely on the government (ie. fellow taxpayers) to pay for the consequences of our vices, whether they be overeating, smoking, alcohol, drugs. I don’t want to pay for your excesses–but I don’t expect you to pay for mine, either.

BTW, Jonalin, it’s been a little while since I visited your blog and I’m sensing a shift–and I’m kinda liking what I’m reading. Hmmm, I am intrigued. I will be back much more often. Keep up the fine writing and biting commentary.

Welcome back! You’re right; it’s been a while. What shift do you sense though?

As for personal responsibility nodes vs. nanny state enabler centers and your response – I’m more concerned about the flip side of that equation.

I don’t like the idea of paying for others’ failures but I far more strongly dislike having to be their keeper and letting anyone think of themselves as mine, and let’s face it, if we have to pay for such things then we have to have a say in each others’ personal behaviors and habits or the costs become untenable.

About the only good that could come of an economic collapse in this country is that all entitlement programs would be abolished.

You and I are not constitutionally entitled to food, healthcare, housing, education etc. Before entitlement programs, people had to make it on their own or, if they were fortunate enough, rely on family, friends and charity when the chips were down.

We are no longer a truly free society. I would much rather give any extra $ I have to help friends and family and charities of my choosing than to give it to the government for redistribution. We have created an entitlement society that entitles the government to run our lives to “hold down costs.”

I say the cost of losing freedom is way too high. And believe me, I’ve been in a place where my “chips were down” but refused to consider applying for government help. Pride, you say? Perhaps. But now that my situation is much improved, its a wonderful feeling to know I didn’t rely on other taxpayers. And I believe we taught our child a valuable lesson in self-reliance.

What is happening now in this country is the entitlement class is electing representatives who promise more entitlements and a vicious dependency cycle is in place.

  8. jonolan Says:

True; Liberals keep on foolishly “feeding the monkeys” even though it been a self-perpetuating failure both here and abroad.

Yet the Liberal brain seems unable to switch pathways and acknowledge this stupidity and insanity for what it is – egregiously wrong and a failure.

    Good point Freedom,

About the only good that could come of an economic collapse in this country is that all entitlement programs would be abolished.

Had a family affair that I attended the other day and as I looked around, everyone in that room worked all of their lives EXCEPT two people. I was proud of my hard working family because in many in my community, you could go back at least three generations before you run across one person that held a job.

The two relatives that never worked at day in their lives are now trying to get social security disability. Does it ever stop? One had the audacity to complain that she fired Binder & Binder. Aaaah, the liberal mindset.

  11. jonolan Says:

Actually, the point is flawed in that American history had shown that economic collapse leads to an increase in entitlement programs, not their termination.

I refer you to FDR’s responses to the Great Depression by way of evidence…
