Iowa Afterwards

Iowa LeftoversIowa Afterwards

Just a little reminder, now that the Iowa Primaries have come and gone, that at the end of the day all that’s left from politicians’ – Republican or Democrat – rhetoric or jabbering is the trash they and the supporters or followers have left behind for someone else to clean up.

What is your point? That the politicians used Iowa? That they left wreckage in their wake and simply moved on?

Yeah, pretty much. It was as much naked cynicism as allegory.

I see it the opposite. As someone who resents that Iowa and New Hampshire have the power to render my primary vote worthless, I say that Iowa loves the attention. They are happy to clean up after the party every four years.

Look at all the attention they got. Look at all of the money spent in their state. That power they wield on both parties is huge. I doubt we would still be pouring ethanol down our gas tanks if Iowa stopped cleaning up every four years.

You do have a point there, Alan.
