College Subsidies

Emperor Obama wearing laurel wreathFriday, June 5, 2012 Obama signed a bill into law continuing and furthering the government’s college subsidies by artificial keeping the student loan interests low.

Make no mistake about this. This bill was designed to subsidize colleges and university, not students. It’s sole purpose is to allow these bastions of Liberalism to continue to charge outrageous tuitions.

Some will say that this is acceptable and that it does no harm. They see an overwhelming benefit in encouraging people to get a college degree. This is because they do not understand the great harm in making a college degree de rigueur.

Some government subsidies have an empirical benefit to the people and the nation. Others, such as subsidizing colleges do not and, in point of fact, do vast amounts of harm over the course of years and decades.

    Jonolan ,

You are amazingly right on with this . Subsidies have allowed universities to increase their profit margins, even the non profit ones . They have also helped maintain salaries in the education industry, while the pay of private sector workers shrinks .

    Thanks, Alan.

Frankly, I get the feeling that this is a problem that few seem to realize and fewer seem willing to talk about.

In Pennsylvania Governor Corbett said last February that State aid to colleges went up in each of the last 10 years and those colleges still jacked up their tuition . He has been attacked for trying to do something about it.

    Elaine,

True, but it’s not going to matter much in this case as the underlying concept is the fraud and what is made up of flaws.

    Alan,

That’s to be expected. Too many people of bought into the pernicious lie that there’s a real benefit to a college degree for most students.
