An actual ice age is equally farfetched as a near-term issue. Yes, an ice age will happen sometime within the next 100K years but that's hardly something to concern ourselves with.

Now a "little" ice age could be a problem, especially since the currently temperate zones provide the food for the world. And that's a problem that could pop up at any point.

Global cooling will kill us off far sooner and faster than global warming. At best global warming might give us a short stay of execution. Next ice age is coming.

I’ve got this interesting piece of data – it’s polling data measuring the proportion of the public that utilised a particular government service in country X in the previous month, and a particularly important government service at that.

The data isn't meant to give you the exact temperature of a city on a given date, but rather show trends in temperatures over large periods of time. Try to imagine how you would have to manipulate data and over what period of time, to produce said results? If they were perpetually adding a degree here or there, it would be evident when comparing to todays temperature. Likewise, if they were removing a degree every year while going backwards, it wouldn't take long for it to be noticed a decade or so ago. While a specific temperature in a given place at a given time may be questionable, the overall trend is irrefutable.

As for the links, the NASA report doesn't disprove anything, it simply explains that the data is not surface temperature and isn't meant to be balls on accurate. As for the 'shakedown', that is an interesting article/site, I will take a closer look at that over the next few weeks, but it just provides two countering positions on a given subject ... the reader will simply pick the side they want to be on. There is no real evidence either way on the surface (I don't have time to follow/read all the links).

Just curious, maybe I've asked this before, but if the earth is not warming, why is the North Pole loosing all its ice? ... and why is the South Pole releasing icebergs in record numbers, and record sizes?

zhann,

If you're going to cite NASA's findings, you might want to check-out the "shakedown" of their findings.

You might also want to review NASA's statements from before Global Warming became hyper-politicized and a cause célèbre.

Just curious, but when it rains outside do you assume the world flooding? That's about the same mistake you are making now, just because it is colder in the USA, doesn't mean the entire planet is suffering the same fate.

I suggest you check out this site

http://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/maps/

You can generate global temperature maps over a period of time specified in the interface. It may give you an interesting perspective on what is really going on.
