Hi, Seriously McMillan!

And I am going on record to say that as an White American of Irish descent, businessman and husband-in-all-but-law of a Black-Apache-Scottish woman, I do “hear” Wright’s outright hatred of “White America”. It's hard to get past "the US of KKK." and similar statements - and don't even get me started on the The Black Value System, which Wright pushed at Trinity UCC.

Sadly, what you've written here doesn't change my opinion. It does present the reasons and rationale for Wright's hatred though. I'd be the last person to say that hatred is born of itself and not in response to one's experiences, or the experiences of our forebearers.

I am going on record to say that as an African-American woman, artist, mother, businesswoman and wife to a French-Canadian Caucasian man, I do not "hear" Wright's outright hatred of “White America”.

Now, I have only heard snippets and portions of Wright's sermons and I base my commentary on that.

What I hear is a man who has experienced a systematic degradation, as I have and many people of color have experienced.

A man that has been so wounded by a society that values him "less than" his caucasian counterparts. I have experienced the same simply because my skin is dark and there is a deeply rooted negative stereotypes about blacks.

As an African-American woman who deals with racism on a daily basis, I have noticed black women are not "allowed" to get angry. We are immediately labeled a black bitch.

Black men, like my son, who is biracial, but looks black...
He cannot be "angry" about injustices that he experiences, because he is then labeled "aggressive" which scares white people.

But teams of "white" people now want to label Wright as an " angry black man", yet this man has served in this country's armed forces and is obviously saddened by the way this country ignores this issue of race.

Now we have a pastor who talks about what "angers" him and he is now looked at as someone who hates "White America."

Most of my friends and family talk about how we were NEVER taught to hate anyone. I learned that I was not accepted because of my skin color because I was called names and mistreated by whites. I had white teachers tell me I would never be anything. I hated them because they demeaned me instead of embraced me for what I could do. (By the way, it was a white teacher that proved them wrong.)

And, it was my white Creative Writing teacher, that I just adore, who encouraged me to write my first teleplay at the age of 14.

Blacks do know to distinguish between people that are forward thinking and progressive versus people that are oppressive. Black or white.

Wright's rants seem to be about behaviors and actions of oppressive whites in society.

I believe that we should not condemn him. We should not hate him back. That's fuel to the fire.

Why aren't people embracing Wright and asking, "why does this man really feel this way?" and what they can do to help humanity, not fight a pastor.

I feel the same about white people who are self-proclaimed racists. I do not understand why they "hate" me, but if they knew "me", they might change their mind.

They probably "hate" the stereotypes and foolish actions of [some, not all] blacks as Wright clearly loathes the stereotypes and foolish actions of [some, not all] whites.

Fr. J,

You said it. He can say whatever he wants to say now but why oh why would you stick around in a church that taught so much hate? You can tell alot of a person by the company they keep. If my pastor EVER stated anything like that, I would be gone immediatly.

Yes, it was a gutsy speech. But, it was the speech he has been avoiding all along. He was forced into it. And, as you know, I dont find it convincing.

Obama used an emotional device to get the listener to stop thinking. "I will not disown" This language gets us to feel an emotional bond. But, emotional bonds to people with wicked thoughts and who teach lies and falsehoods is dangerous.

Obama ought to disown this man, not yesterday, but 20 years ago. Obama upon hearing that Klannish thinking should have run the other way.

But, Obama held on to Wright and Trinity because they were his tie to a black community he had never been a part of. Obama from an elite prep school in Hawaii and Harvard was looking for street cred in the hood. This is just as evil as the words of Wright himself.
