[...] “Jonolan’s political leanings are far to the Right on some issues and equally far to the Left on others. In areas of foreign policy, he favors isolationism in the vein of walk softly but carry a big stick. On social issues he favors a more liberal view that follows the guidelines of Do what thou wilt shall be the whole Law and An it harm none, do as thou wilt.” Source: About Page of Reflections from a Murky Pond [...]

I just found your blog through a scathing, yet likeable (to me, anyway) comment you made on another's blog. I find the juxtaspostion of your current post (Holder/racial quotas in Dayton) with your announcment that "pole dancer" was the #1 search term that led people to your blog in 2010 fascinating. Oh, yes, I will be back (If for no other reason than to read that post on the Pole Dancer!) Just kidding. Nice blog!

Liberal, Leftist, there's no functional difference in meaning within America, Tanner. The labels are interchangeable in normal parlance. It might have been different if most of the more classic Leftist hadn't been subsumed by the Liberal label in the wake of McCarthy.

I'm not a leftist -- I'm also not confused. I replied to your comment on my blog -- and thank you for the thoughts.

You make the Leftist's common mistake; you equate a degree with education.

I've audited literally 100s of hours of courses on a variety of subjects, including both hard sciences and philosophy at a variety of colleges over the years, plus studied independently when I had access to course's syllabus and materials but not the time for formal classes.

As for the travel - I was in the military but I also traveled later as part of my civilian work, mostly setting up cartographic projects for governments across the world.

BTW - just to further confuse you, while I was raised Roman Catholic and studied under Jesuits, Dominicans, and Franciscans, I'm Pagan. My degree in Theology being now more useful in the study of Theosophy than it is in its original intent - though the Aramaic studies have made it more fun when dealing with some Abrahamics.

I'm also currently employed as the ISO for one of the BUs of a Global 1000 company.

The degree in Theology and lack of progressive/scientific/philosophical education is about what I expected, no offense meant! The travel is a surprise, why the great number of places? Were you a member of our military?

No problem really; it was just an odd enough set of questions, after perusing your blog, that I wondered.

1. Age: Late 40s

2. Education: Hard to accurately describe. The only formal degree I hold is a Doctorate of Divinity, but I've study (both in universities and independently) a plethora of subjects ranging from various disciplines in Physics, Biology, Botany, Medicine, Paleontology, and Geology, through History and Anthropology, and into various languages and cultural studies.

3. Countries I've Traveled to: Belize, Brazil, Columbia, Argentina, Venezuela, Honduras, Costa Rica, Mexico, Egypt, Bahrain, Dubai, Israel, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Tunisia, Yemen, Morocco, Ivory Coast, South Africa, Somalia, Sudan, Chad, Kenya, Turkey, Japan, China (Hong Kong), Taiwan, Australia, England, and France.

No. You match it perfectly. I just wanted to know more about you -- for, let's say, case study purposes. I'm what you might call a philosopher, and what I'd call a contemplator -- educationally I'm a PhD in Physics but I'm writing a book on social systemics ... your blog grabbed my interest, that's all. You don't have to answer the questions.
